For a few months, I was at home recovering from back surgery. Now I am back to working full time. The recovery has been an eye opening time. Before the surgery, I actually thought that by the second week out of surgery I would have cleaned out all of my closets. If you talk to some of the wonderful people that I work with they will be quick to tell you my expectations quite often have nothing to do with reality. That was the way it was with my recovery. For thirty days, I was horizontal most of the time. What happened to my energy, my muscle mass? I finally accept the fact that I am no longer a spring chicken. What really surprised me during this time was that I didn't even feel good enough to sew. It was a shock to my system. I love to catch at least a few minutes to sew almost every day, so for me to look at my sewing machine with no desire left me in shock. Now that I am feeling better I am beginning to sew again. And it has been wonderful! I have been working on a quilt I was in the middle of, Urbanologie and managed to finish two purses, both made with cork. Urbanologie is a creative quilt made from the mini size Quick Curve Ruler. It is not for beginners, it is more of a journey going through feathers, arrows, pineapples, butterflies, etc. |
The cork fabric has been so much fun to work with, very easy to handle. What I discovered was that it brought out some creative juices that had been dormant for a long time. I tried using some of my rubber stamps and stamp pads on the cork. Super cool. I am wondering if others would like to play with this. I have plenty of stamps for folks to use in a class. They could also use the class to learn how easy it is to work with the cork and make a small bag at the same time. My class is Sunday July 9th, it is only a few hours long. I hope you will join me.
