Life gets in the way of sewing

It is nearly 9 pm, another night I will not get to my sewing room.  All week I have been going to meetings, cooking, working in the garden, numerous things that have not allowed me to do what is a necessary part of my well being.  Maybe not necessary for many people, but at least 30 minutes or more a night of running a needle and thread through fabric calms me down from the scurry of the day.  If I don't get to do that I don't really feel calm before I go to bed.  Unless you are an avid sewist you probably will have no idea what I am talking about.

To be honest, most of the time it doesn't even matter what I am sewing on.  It could be intricate or simple.  I have been making blocks that I cut from the Go! Big machine lately.  I absolutely love making these blocks because they go so fast using this cutting method.  They fit perfectly every time, I keep thinking something won't fit right but so far every single block is perfect.

My best friend likes to sew in the early morning.  When is your favorite time to sew?  What is your favorite project to sew on when you just want to get into the Zen of sewing?

Below are some of the 6" blocks I cut from the Go! cutter.  My blocks go together so quickly without needing to draw a line from corner to corner and no need to clip dog ears!  Although it comes in many sizes, I personally love the tiny blocks.

I agree with you Randa. I Love to sew all the time. Early morning & evenings are best but i will take time whenever available. I love every step in making quilts, beginning to end & love the satisfaction in binding & finishing a quilt.

I usually do my sewing at night, I'm just not a morning person, so getting ready for work trumps sneaking into my sewing room. That being said, I do love the occasional Saturday that I have nothing pressing and I can have a leisurely breakfast and then enjoy some hours of quality time sewing when I am not tired from a long day at work. I am still at work now, but heading home soon. I will pop something on the embroidery machine while I do a few things around the house. Hopefully you will get to spend a few minutes with something beautiful!

My sewing room is my therapy room. I can go in as early 9 am and may not come out until time to cook supper at 5 except of course to refill my tea glass or take a bathroom break. Now that it is spring I am trying to divide my time between sewing and yard work but that is ok because I love both of them.

I like gardening too Shirley. Or should I say weeding, that seems to be what I do mostly! I want to take off a day next week and have a day you described, of just sewing all day. Yippee!

Sue, you sound like you are very organized. What are you embroidering on now?

Rosa, good to hear from you. After reading your post I realized that my favorite part is picking out the fabric and pattern and just looking at it. I am always so eager to begin. Happy stitching.

I'm just breezing through the "Sew Artsy Fartsy" articles today. My favorite part of quilting besides choosing lovely fabrics is the friendships I've made at Prairie Quilt. My steps are now limited to 900 per day; however, as soon as my broken leg is healed I'll be back at PQ taking more fun classes and enjoying my friends there!

An interesting discussion is worth comment. I think that you should write more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but generally people are not enough to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers
