Free Row Pattern
from Prairie Quilt
Row by Row Experience is an international quilt shop hop, with over 3,000 independent quilt shops participating throughout the United States, Canada and new this year – Europe. It takes place each summer, and invites people to stop into participating quilt shops to pick up their free “row” pattern, which measures about 36″ wide by 9″ high. The event has few guidelines by design – there are no passports or fees, and it takes place throughout the entire summer across the United States, Canada and Europe – a bonus for those who travel.
This year’s theme is “Home Sweet Home”, which opens itself up to wide interpretation. Anything can be a home: a house, a place, a feeling, our planet. Each quilt shop involved has designed a row based on this theme, and is offering their row pattern free of charge to those who stop in through September 6, when the travel portion of Row By Row Experience ends. It is interesting to see how each quilt shop interprets the theme each year when creating their row. Quilt rows are created with methods that run the gamut, including applique, paper-piecing, and traditional piecing.
Oklahoma has 40 shops participating, so if you’re a quilter that means there are 40 free quilt row patterns available in the state of Oklahoma alone. There are also prizes at stake. Collect row patterns from eight different shops and complete a quilt incorporating those rows according to official guidelines. The first person to present their quilt at a participating shop before the deadline of October 31, 2016 will win that shop’s prize – a bundle of 25 fat quarters (6 1/4 yards of fabric). Janet Lutz from New York is the brain child that created this fun event. With over 3,000 shops she had to divide the work somehow so she appointed coordinators within each state. I am the coordinator for Oklahoma. If you have any questions please let me know.
