Good for the soul

My husband and I had not had a vacation together in over two years so we thought we would sneak away for a few days. We decided to go to Texas to the antique festival near Round Top Texas with my sister Cindi and her husband David. This show is miles and miles of antiques, junk and a whole lot of rusting objects.  We love old things but had no intention of buying anything, we have plenty of the above mentioned items already.

I have to admit, I did buy some things. Things I don't need but tugged at my heart, a brooch to wear on my beret, a postcard of a child and a Chinese checker board without any marbles. All total I spent $42, I am pleased with my purchases and know I will love them.  I will put them with other things I don't need but seem to speak to my soul.

When we came home I looked at the pictures I took, it was almost embarrassing.  There they were, all these pictures of old quilts. My heart is into quilts, I can drive over 1,000 miles and still I am drawn to the combination of fabric and design. Some of you understand, for those of you who don't I can't imagine why you are reading this blog.  Although I talk about other things like tractors and dogs, it is still focused around needle and thread. I can't help myself, it always comes back to the love of fabric and design, and the unquenchable desire to share it with the world.

The best thing since the rotary cutter?

I have been excited about many of the awesome fabrics that have been coming to the shop this spring.  The first is the Hometown Girl fabric by Pat Sloan, I just LOVE this fabric, it has a fun and fresh look.
So I combined Hometown Girl with my newest and most exciting tool in the sewing world - my Go! Big electric cutter.  I really do think this is the best thing that has come around in quilting for many years.  Sure, you have heard about the GO! cutters but the one I am talking about is the electric one.  I cut these blocks out in no time at all by letting the machine do the work.  Two little pieces ran away between the shop and going home with me to the farm to be assembled.  Where they are I have no idea but I will keep looking, at least I have plenty of fabric left at the shop to recut them.  The pieces are cut with the dog ears snipped away making for perfect piecing and eliminating the step of trimming.   They are already cut diagonally so I don't have to make a mark on every square to make them into triangles!  You are going to LOVE this product.
In March all the Go! cutters have a $50 rebate so be sure to check them out.  You can be sure you are going to hear more about this cool item from me.  Who wants to sew?  All of us, but who says they love to cut?  None!
